The cat is him: Jean-Claude Chanudet, pioneer of natural wines in Beaujolais. Outside of his activities at Domaine J. Chamonard, he is part of the handful of winemakers that produced from parcels previously owned by the father of natural wines, Jules Chauvet. Along with Marie Lapierre (wife of the late Marcel Lapierre) they produce La Cuvée du chat from one of the famous parcels at Château Cambon. This is a wine marked by mineral notes, joined by red berries. If you have been cynical of Beaujolais in the past this is the chance to think again. A slightly weightier example of Gamay coming from the Morgon and exceptional quality of fruit that will win the doubters over. Decant for maximum pleasure.
